Resource centres network

"A resource centre is not just a collection of books. Its priority should be to actively share what information is available, and to encourage the users to exploit and develop the available resources to the greatest extent"

electronic discussion group

As part of the support we offer to resource centre practitioners we are planning to set up an electronic discussion group, which will begin in the Summer 2006. This will be a forum for resource centres and other information managers to discuss experiences and share ideas relating to their work.

Our research and experience has shown that there is a lot of enthusiasm and demand for this kind of communication and mutual support amongst our users. Members will be able to post messages to the list and receive responses from a diverse range of working environments, but all with a specific information resource management focus.

We believe the e-forum will help us to enhance the network of unique and focused health resource centres that we operate in, and will allow greater sharing of skills, learning, and technical expertise.

The initial focus for the electronic discussion group will be on the sharing of resources, monitoring and evaluation, and needs assessment methodology that people find useful, as well as keeping people informed about different areas of work. There is scope to have discussions on particular themes or issues of concern that may affect the group.

If you are interested in joining our discussion group please send an email to Daphne Kouretas at kouretas.d@healthlink.org.uk
